Description:

UNIT Marked Antique PRUSSIAN Carbine by SUHL

Made Circa 1833 at the SUHL Armory

Here we present an antique Prussian Cavalry Carbine, made in 1833 at the armory at Suhl. This carbine began life as a flintlock in the early 1800s and was updated to percussion around the 1850s to continue service, perhaps even as late as the 1870s. These large-bore, single-shot cavalry weapons remained virtually unchanged until after the Franco-Prussian War, when Prussian horse troops would finally adopt more modern weapons such as the revolver. This carbine may very well have seen the Schleswig Wars, Austro-Prussian War, and Franco-Prussian War before its retirement.

The lock is marked “S.P./SUHL”. The butt is marked “10.L.H.30/779/1833”.

The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good condition with some light sanding. The bore is clear and bright. The action on this carbine is excellent.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 17 inches.

Caliber: .62 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
