Description:
Ithaca Grade 4E 12 Gauge Side-by-Side
32" KRUPP BARRELS, HIGH STOCK, NICE!

General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1918, 12 Gauge, 8lbs 4oz, SxS
Serial Number: 292400

The Ithaca Gun Co. sold more double shotguns than any other American maker of its time, and by a very long margin.  The prices, grade for grade, were competitive with the other makers, i.e. Parker, L.C. Smith, Lefever, A.H. Fox, but they sold soooo many more guns.  The buying public found Ithaca a better gun.  My own observation is that, grade for grade, Ithaca doubles had better wood, far better checkering, often superior engraving, and equal mechanics and handling characteristics compared to the other makers.  In today’s world of vintage American doubles, Ithaca is an undervalued vintage double shotgun.  The Flues Model particularly is a great example, being the longest running model in the Ithaca line-up.  The Flues Model came out in 1909 and was in constant production through 1926, a 17-year run!  There were over 250,000 Flues Models produced in this time period, an amount equal to all of Parker Brothers 65 years of production!  This fine Flues gun, SN292400 built in 1918 is a great example, with 50% factory case color, nicely figured wood, flor-de-lis checkering interlaced with ribbons, excellent mechanics, and long 32” Krupp Steel barrels, and offered at a very affordable price.  Many of the early guns had lots of drop in the stock for the old style of shooting, making them undesirable in today’s world where double gun enthusiasts use their guns for hunting and clay targets.  Here we have a gun likely built as a Trap Gun or Live Bird Gun, with stock dimensions of 14 1/6” LOP x 1 7/8” Drop at Heel, and 1 ½” Drop at the nose of the comb.  This would make an amazing live bird gun, or a long-range gun for blocking corn fields, pass shooting doves and crows, dropping geese at long ranges, late season pheasants, western sharptail, or rearranging a big tom turkeys hairdo.  The gun weighs in at 8 1/4lbs. and has a very nice swing and balance to it.  The repetitive recoil is greatly reduced in a gun of this weight, making this a great sporting clays gun as well.  This is not the typical worn out Flues with tons of drop and short barrels, but instead a gun with the features shooters want in today’s shooting world.  Thanks for looking!
