Description: SOLD...Excellent antique 1892 Winchester. Here is a way above average antique 1892 Winchester. Standard 24” octagon barrel. In the best shooting caliber in this model is of course my favorite 38-40. S/N 119094 and made in 1896. To start with, the bore is flat out mint. Bright and shiny like a mirror with NO pits or frosting. And NO, it has not been relined.... I have a few in my collection with mint bores like this one but they are getting very hard to find these days. NO rings or bulges of course. Need less to say, this gun shoots as good as the day it was made PERIOD.!!!! Mechanics are excellent. Feeds, fires and ejects like a new gun.. The action is as smooth as silk.. Down side of the gun is that it has pitting on the receiver as you can see. Lets start with the finish now. It has a very large amount of original finish as you can see. I will break it down as the barrel has 90% bright and deep blue just thinning out on the edges. The mag tube has a little less at about 80%. The receiver has about 65% on the left side with the balance a cleaned gray with some pitting. Just traces of blue on the right side and the balance is a cleaned gray with pitting. Some pitting on the bottom of the receiver but it is a little lighter. The pitting is probably from blood and or poor storage. No other pitting on the gun anywhere. The lower tang has 75% blue and the forearm end cap even retains about 15% thinning blue. Some visible but light case colors on the lever also. Case colors have faded out on the hammer. Gun still retains both original front and rear sights. All the screw heads are clean and untouched from tinkering. The wood is near excellent also. The forearm fits tight with no splits or cracks. Fits very full and proud to the metal all around. Never sanded or cleaned on. Just shows minor and honest handling dings and scratches. The butt stock shows a little more wear but still fits tight and even with the metal all around. Nothing fitting below the metal at all but at the toe of the butt plate. Shows a very minor grain split on the left side up by the upper tang and receiver. Maybe a 1/2” long and a 1/8” high but is solid. Hardly worth mentioning but I like honest descriptions. Some very small grain splits on the bottom by the butt plate toe as is common but nothing that is going anywhere and all is solid. Wood is just a little shy below the butt plate at the toe as I mentioned and is also very common. The photos tell the rest. This is a VERY nice 92 and if it was not for the pitting on the receiver I would be asking $3000 for it. My price is way more than fair if you can stand this issue. If not, I will keep it !!!!! Just that simple. Won't find one with this much bright blue for the $$$ anywhere. If you are a shooter or collector, you will love this gun. $50 insured shipping.
