Description:
Manhattan Type IV 36 cal Navy black powder percussion revolver with 6 shot cylinder having 12 cylinder stops. 6.5" barrel reads "Manhattan Fire Arms Co. Newark NJ" on the top line and "Patented March 6, 1864" on the bottom line. Brass trigger guard and grip strap. Grips look to be rosewood and have a nice color and grain pattern with very little wear. Cylinder has very minor play and indexes fine. All steel surfaces are a dark brown with plum mixed in and show scattered light pitting. Mechanically fine. All visible serial numbers match (62553). Screw heads in very good condition. Wedge screw is an old replacement as it has more blue than the rest of the gun. Wedge is not numbered. Bore is fair with visible rifling and some pitting with a couple of rings of fouling. Hammer is silver colored and either was cleaned or is a period replacement. Overall a decent example of a Colt wanna-be that will make a great addition to your Civil War percussion collection. 315.251.4799 with questions or concerns.
