Serial Number: 73641

In the world of A.H. Fox double shotguns, the 12ga. Sterlingworth is the most common of them all…they made tens of thousands of them.  If you want ejectors on your gun the search just got harder, as less than 10% were produced with ejectors.  The 12ga. Sterlingworth is easy to find…if you want just any old gun.  Most have been well used, put away wet, stocks cut, barrels cut, pitted bores, cracked and repaired, poorly restored, etc.  Finding a clean, honest Sterlingworth is difficult.  Well, here we have the kind of Sterlingworth most shooters want, sn73641 made in 1913.  Why?  Because this gun is a solid FOX with lots of condition remaining.  This gun was lightly used, well cared for, and properly stored over the 105 years of existence.  Examining this gun with the harshest scrutiny you will find 95% factory blue on the barrels, 65% vivid bone and charcoal factory case color, 40% factory charcoal blue trigger guard, nicely finished original stock with excellent checkering, excellent shiny bores, and perfect screws.  There is a non-factory Pachmayr Sporting Clays pad on the gun, but the stock is uncut.  We left the pad for shooters wanting longer LOP.  Upland hunters will appreciate this very light 7lb. Fox that balances dead on the hinge pin…a very light 12ga. indeed!  The 28” number 3 weight barrels are choked M/F and will be useful for game and clays.  You may have noticed I mentioned “bone and charcoal case colors”.  Many will look and say the colors don’t look like other Sterlingworth guns. Astute Fox collectors are aware that up until about 1915 all Ansley Fox guns had bone and charcoal case colors, and then the switch was made to a cyanide process for the balance of production.  Early guns have bone and charcoal case colors.  If you want to own the best and want to make a solid investment in a “condition” gun that you can use afield or at the club, this is your gun.  Affordable excellence with desirable features is what you will get.  Thanks for looking!
