Description:

SPRINGFIELD U.S. Model 1816 Conversion MUSKET

With Note About Previous Ownership

Here we present an antique Springfield Armory US Model 1816 Percussion Conversion Musket, manufactured at the armory at Springfield, Massachusetts circa 1826. The M1816 was in production at Springfield (325,000) and Harpers Ferry (350,000) between 1816 to 1844 with around 675,000 muskets produced during this run. It saw service during the Mexican-American War and was even pressed into service during the Civil War in both the updated percussion and the old flintlock format.

In the 1850’s, many 1816’s went through the conversion from flintlock to percussion, as is the case with this musket. The lock is dated “1823”. Under the lock we discovered a small note about ownership. The gun was owned by John Earl Givens, then John Parker Givens of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was passed onto John W. Leonard by the family in 1956.

The metal surface are dark with age. The markings are legible. The walnut stock shows the wear and use that you would expect from a nearly 200-year-old flintlock to percussion musket. The bore is smooth and dark. The hammer and percussion nipple are absent. Here is an interesting old US musket!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 42 inches.

Caliber: .69 Percussion
