Description:

1840s Antique “POOR BOY” Appalachian Long Rifle

Quintessential Frontier Rifle

Here we present an antique Poor Boy Full-Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa 1840, likely in Appalachia. This is the sort of rifle that the everyman would have kept in his cabin and used to put food on the table and protect the homestead. This rifle was all business, lacking any kind of frills, even lacking much in the way of hardware except for two brass ramrod tubes. There is no brass butt plate, fore end cap, or patch box. Trigger guard is iron and of the style used in the Southern United States. The barrel is nearly 39 inches long and octagonal. The lock is marked “JOSEPH GOLCHER”. Double set triggers complete this rifle.

The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have a uniformly dark patina. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape. The bore is in good shape, dark with strong rifling. The set trigger action on this rifle is strong. Rear trigger must be set to fire the rifle.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 38-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .41 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
