Description:
L.C. Smith Ideal 16 Gauge - EJECTORS, CONDITION DOUBLE BARREL GUN, VINTAGE FIREARMS, INC.

Description:
L.C. Smith Ideal 16 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun
EJECTORS, CONDITION, DOUBLE BARREL GUN

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1925, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 12oz, SxS
Serial Number: FWE84691

The Ideal Grade L.C. Smith is the first level of a "graded" Elsie, with open foliate engraving pattern, nicer wood and checkering than the Field grade, and the banjo style forend latch rather than a snap-on forend.  They made around 4400 Ideal Grades in 16ga., so it is not a "rare" gun.  However, only 1900 were made with ejectors and few remain with 75% factory case color and lots of original condition.  The Ideal Grade is an affordable, quality made vintage American double that will serve you well afield or at the traps.  This fine Elsie, snFWE84691 made in 1925, is a desirable Hunter Arms gun and was shipped with 28” barrels, double ivory beads, nice wood, and what appears to be a factory installed Jotsam Anti-Flinch pad (hard but not cracked or mushroomed).  If you look closely at the original trigger guard tang blue and blue remaining on the triggers themselves, you will realize this gun has not been carried or shot much at all.  The wood has strong checkering and no cracks or repairs.  We have included a clear photo of the inside head of the stock showing perfect inletting and no cracks or repairs, which is important when buying a vintage shotgun.  The barrels are choked Cylinder/Modified from the factory and was likely intended for upland birds over fine dogs.  The bores are excellent, lettering crisp and clear, barrel wall thickness is a substantial minimum of 37 thousandths, and the factory chambers are    2 ¾”.    The ejectors are strong and well timed, and the barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a brand-new gun.  The case colors are strong and factory original and the screws are perfect.  The flash photography makes the patina show almost as rust on the bottom of the receiver, but it is not that way in person…just some light browning.  The stock dimensions are modern, and the wood-to-metal fit is perfect.  THIS IS A VERY NICE, HONEST GUN set up just right for clays and birds.  L.C. Smith guns have yet to accelerate in price as have the Parker and Fox guns and represent the best value for the money invested.  America’s only successful sidelock shotgun, they are a very fine gun in hand.  Thanks for looking!
