The Colt Single Action Army is a worldwide icon of the United States of America and the Western Frontier and the Artillery Model is certainly one of the most interesting. It is characterized by having been issued as a U.S. Cavalry sidearm prior to about 1893, then returning to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory to be serviced, parts exchanged, and the barrel shortened to keep it in service. This one comes with both a Colt Archive Letter for the original revolver, as well as a John A. Kopec Letter in which he painstakingly analyzes each part of this revolver in its present configuration. Per the Colt factory letter, sent to U.S. Government Inspection on July 11, 1890 in a shipment of 300. The frame, barrel, and grip are inspector marked “RAC” for Rinaldo A. Carr. The frame marked marked “US” on the left side. There is the faint remnant of an inspector cartouche on the right side of the grip. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame, underneath the cylinder, is marked “PAT.SEPT.19.1871/PAT.JULY.2.1872”. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces bear traces of original blue with a gray patina throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut grips are in good shape with honest wear. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a Colt Single Action Army in the legendary .45 caliber with both Colt & Kopec letters! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches. Caliber: .45 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
