Description: Remington 1858 New Model Army, 44 caliber black powder percussion revolver, circa 1862-1866, octagonal 8 in. barrel. All original parts, including loading lever, brass trigger guard, raised front sight, walnut grips, cylinder, and back strap; top of barrel reads "Patented Sept 14, 1858, E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, New York, U.S.A. New Model"; trigger guard, left barrel flat and cyllinder marked "W", under barrel serial # reads 85873, left side of frame by hammer marked "J"; right side of frame at forcing cone and right barrel flat marked with what looks like an "F". All are US inspector marks. Very faint outline of cartouche shows under a flashlight on right grip. Excellent bore with strong rifling and very little fouling. Tight action & cylinder indexes perfectly each time. All nipples intact and in good condition. Left grip was cracked and repaired. Hammer spur had been broken off at one time and was welded back on many years ago judging by the wear and aging there. Some scattered pitting and ding marks, more extensive pitting at the last 2 inches or so of the outside of the barrel. All in all a solid example of a Martially Marked, Civil War era Remington New Model Army. 315.251.4799 with questions or concerns.
