NICE Antique UNDERHAMMER Percussion Rifle
From IONIA, MICHIGAN Circa 1870
Here we present an antique Underhammer Percussion Musket by R.M. Pickett, made circa 1870 in Ionia, Michigan. This is a fantastic example of a late percussion musket. The technology was dated at the time that this was made but still as functional as ever. This smoothbore musket features rifle sights that could have been used with ball or buck & ball as well as shot. The beauty of the underhammer mechanism and this musket in particular is the simplicity and slender profile.
The top of the barrel and trigger guard tang are marked “R.M. PICKETT”.
The overall condition is near fine. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape. The bore is smooth and semi-bright. The action is excellent.
