Description:
This Colt was purchased in 1858 by J.C. Petmecky, a prominent gunsmith in Austin Texas. He was a dealer, repairman and maker of guns for the Texas trade. He is known to have made rifles for Sam Houston, Bigfoot Wallace and General McCullough. He is also known for his patented spurs. I have copies of his long history to go along with Colt number 14397. In the early 1870s, he converted the gun to 44 centerfire and gave it to his older brother Alfred W. Petmecky, who was the Justice of the Peace for Gillespie County, Texas. He later gave the gun to his son Alfred Petmecky, who was sheriff of Gillespie County, Texas from 1920 until 1925. Alfred left the gun to his grandson Jimmie Petmecky on his death. I purchased the gun and a sworn statement of the history of the pistol and the Petmeckys from Jimmie Petmecky in 2018. The overall condition of the pistol is in fine condition as converted. The action is nice and tight and mechanically, it is excellent. All the serial numbers on the gun match, including the cylinder and wedge. The conversion is as good as any that came out of the Colt factory!! The pistol at one time had an ejector assembly, but it has been removed during its period of use. A really fine, historic and rare piece of frontier Texas History. US only – no international sales. Buyer pays $30.00 shipping.  Three-day inspection allowed if notification is given and item is returned UNALTERED, less shipping.  Antique – no FFL required.  If your state or area requires an FFL for antiques, buyer will need to provide one.  Must be 21 years of age to purchase.  Any weapon you plan to shoot should be inspected by a competent gunsmith before firing.
