Description:
Marlin Model 1881 lever action rifle. Serial Number #1029, manufactured prior to 1883. .45 -70 Caliber. (45 Govt) . 28" octagon barrel with full magazine a very good bore, showing well -defined rifling with some frosted grooves. Metal is grey to brown patina with some scattered age freckling. Traces of original case color remain on the hammer, lever and buttplate. Markings remain clear and very well defined. Walnut forend and straight grip buttstock remain in about very good condition having darkened from the years with mostly worn finish, scattered small dings, scratches. Has the Rocky Mountain rear sight with "Harpoon" elevator, in rear dovetail. Front sight is small brass blade "Rocky Mountain" style in a dovetail. Barrel has the Marlin two line address ,with caliber designation ("45 Govt"). Seems to function very good mechanically . Some screw heads a little molestation.
