Description:
This revolver is a .44 caliber, 6-shot round cylinder, 7 1/2" octagonal barrel with hinged type loading lever assembly. It is a single action revolver with grips of two piece walnut, blued finish metal, with casehardened hammer and lever. U.S. Ordnance contracted for 5000 of these revolver in November, 1864 all of which were delivered by September 1865. No records indicate issuance of these guns. In 1901, military goods dealer Francis Bannerman, N.Y. acuqired most of the entire lot at Government sale, offering them to collectors through their catalogs over the next few years. Serial numbered from 1 on up. This one is serial number 375. It is in very good condition. Inspector marks on grips and variou metal parts.
