Description:
I am primarily a huge Colt dealer and this Colt is one of the rarest and hardest to find variation's I've ever had the pleasure to own. This Colt Lightning Small Frame rifle is factory engraved and configuration is confirmed by the factory letter. The engraving is no doubt by the hand of Cuno Helfricht. This gun has seen its better days but the history beyond the condition easily exceeds the conditions importance. I have done a lot of research and talked with many people in this business/hobby. I believe this is the very first Documented Factory engraved Colt lightning. Only about 20 were ever factory engraved which already gives it a great deal of rarity by that fact. This gun features a half and half finish. Half nickel and half blue. Very rarely is that feature encountered on this model. This gun was shipped to J.C. Petmecky in Austin Texas on January 10, 1888. in this exact configuration. This Lightning is the only known Factory engraved Lightning shipped to Texas! The history behind this Colt is absolutely beyond interesting! This is a true Old West/ Wild West relic. Every feature is confirmed by the factory letter, which the letter will be included in this sale. Overall condition of this rifle, The frame retains 50-55% original nickel finish. The octagon barrel is sharp and shows 35% blue turning. Right side of the frame has pitting. Mechanical function, when the pump is pulled back properly takes the hammer back to the correct position but the hammer does not hold at the second cock, only the first. Please look at pictures for more aspects of the condition of the rifle. If any questions, feel free to ask! Shipping service can be chosen by the buyer from overnight to ground. Buyer to pay actual cost plus insurance.
