Description:
Interesting Belgium Flintlock Contract Rifled Musket, .75 caliber, 53 ¾” OAL with 38” pinned barrel. Serial number or “Bench Mark” 266 is stamped on all parts including stock, barrel & back side of sideplate (common practice for Dutch armories). Top of barrel marked with Belgian Liege proof mark (ELG). Left side of barrel stamped "ISL" with other unidentified markings with right side of barrel stamped (NT) with other unidentified proof marks. This style of musket is along the same lines as the Brown Bess with very similar stock configuration. The barrel is finished in the white with lock unmarked. One sling swivel is secured to the middle barrel band on front stock between two trumpets while the second swivel is integral to the triggerguard on underside of stock. Ramrod has forged nail end at the butt & retained by four trumpet style tubes. Retains original brass furniture throughout including sideplate, triggerguard, buttplate & rod tubes. This type of musket was used by Hessian troops during the Revolutionary War. This example is an honest and clean, all original flintlock musket dating to that period.
