Personal Check with hold Description: Very Fine Late U.S. Martial Marked Henry Repeating Rifle BY New Haven Arms. serial #7206, .44 RF Caliber, 24'' octagon barrel with a near very good bore which shows deep rifling its entire length with some patches of pitting present. Has the absolutely untouched rich patina on the action. The sideplates are tight, the edges are crisp and the patina is deep and rich. The left side of the action shows a dark stain which is 3/16'' wide and runs from the lever screw diagonally to the top of the sideplate just ahead of the rear hump. This was likely caused by some type of contaminant and doesn't take away from this wonderful rifle. These late martial Henry rifles are identified by one of two different set of initials found on the left side of the wrist of the stock. Fortunately, this stock still shows lots of original finish and is untouched leaving the ''J.T.'' stamp on left side of wrist clearly visible and legible. The rifle features matching serial numbers on the barrel, left side action tang, top inlet of buttstock and inside toe of buttplate with Oliver Winchester's inspector's initial ''W'' appearing on the rear of the lower tang. The barrel address and serial number are correct and remain clearly legible with the barrel retaining a pleasing even brown patina overall with some old very light scattered even oxidation but no real pitting of any kind evident. There are traces of original blue finish on the top of the barrel near the serial number just ahead of action. The hammer and lever show a pleasing mix of faded original color case-hardened finish and a smooth even gray brown patina. The walnut buttstock rates very good plus to excellent retaining over 90% original finish with clearly visible ''Henry Bump"on left side of buttstock beneath the original swivel. The surface of the stock shows normal light handling marks from the years with wonderful wood-to-metal fit. The rifle is sighted with small German silver blade front and folding Henry ladder rear. This rifle was one of 627 U.S. martial Henry rifles that were issued to the 3rd Regiment U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry late in the Civil War.
