Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1913, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 10oz, Chokes IC/LM, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 5/8"
Serial Number: 200222

Ansley H. Fox came out with what most believe to be the best proportioned 20ga. gun made in America late in 1912 when they announced the availability of their new 16 and 20 gauge guns, both made on a 20 gauge frame.  The first full year of production was 1913 and the serial number range began at 200,000.    The early A Grade pattern was a simple scroll pattern in English style.  The first few hundred small bore graded Fox guns got early A style engraving, and then came William Gough in 1913 and changed it all.  All A Grades from then on had the more familiar deep vine and foliate type engraving.  This gun, sn200222 made in 1913 is one of a small handful of 20ga. A Grade Fox guns you will ever see with early A engraving.  Most Fox enthusiasts are aware that the early guns seemed to be made with a little more care than the later guns, with smooth polished parts, a little nicer wood, and a better fit and finish in general than the later guns.  You will notice these features on this gun, weighing 5lbs. 10oz. and balanced perfectly with its 26" Krupp steel barrels, nicely figured fiddle back wood, and excellent checkering and wood to metal fit.  For the Fox enthusiast finding an early A Grade small bore is a rare chance to add a fine little 20ga. to their collection.  For the avid upland game chaser that loves the romance of the vintage side by side, this is a perfectly balanced, lightweight, well made gun that will appreciate in value as you enjoy its use.  The 26" Krupp #3 weight barrels have excellent bores, 98% factory blue, .617/.618 bore diameter, IC/M chokes (.008/.015 restrictions), minimum barrel wall thickness of 27 thou right, 28 thou left, 2 3/4" chambers with extended forcing cones, double ivory beads, tight ribs, no dents, barrels tight as new on hinge pin and breech face, and excellent set of barrels. The action has about 45% case color that has turned dark, excellent screws, action tight with lever way to the right of center, clear engraving, crisp double triggers, all in excellent mechanical condition.  The nicely figured, fiddleback stock with 1/2 round pistol grip has no cracks, great wood to metal fit, new Truoil finish, recut checkering, 14 3/8" LOP, 2 7/8" drop at heel, 1 5/8" drop at comb, 1/8" cast off (we can bend the stock to your dimensions within 10 days of purchase), a really nice piece of wood on this fine Fox.
This is a great investment grade upland Fox.  Thanks for looking!
