Description:
This is a rare experimental accuracy device that was named for Dr. FW Mann and was used by the U.S. Ordnance Dept. for testing the accuracy potential of the .30 Carbine cartridge.  It has an original Remington 03-A3 parkerized action serial number 3491634 and an oversized 19 inch round barrel that is "in the white".  The barrel is marked in two lines "Rifle Accuracy cal 30 Carb. D45850.  Franklin War Mann (1856-1916) worked with famous barrel makers Niedner and Pope and was a pioneer in the studying of the causes and effects of accuracy in rifle bullet flight.  His work was continued after his death by the U.S. Military.  This is a rare original example of one of the test rifles and should be important to both the M1903 and the U.S. M1 Carbine collector.  A rare chance to own one of these all-original experimental U.S. pieces.
