Description: SOLD..Antique 1892 Winchester. Has the standard 24” barrel. S/N 108588 and made in 1896. Caliber is in the best shooting 38-40. This gun feeds, fires and ejects perfectly and the action is very smooth. Both full and half cock notches are positive and correct. The bore has strong rifling with some very thin circular areas of pitting. There is NO bulges, no breaks in the rifling and it is just pitting. This gun shoots great as all 38-40's will even with much rougher bores than this one has. This is why the 38-40 is my absolute favorite caliber in these 92's and 73's... They will out shoot a 44-40 all day... No backed out primers or bulged cases. Gun still has the original front and rear sights. The front sight is a special order “hunters” with the ivory bead still intact... The rear is standard buck horn sight. The elevator is a later replacement but serves the purpose just fine. This gun over all is an untouched deep plumb brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. Just the way I love to find these ole Winchesters. Gun is smooth with no pitting but just a little bit of pin pricks at the end of the muzzle. {see photo of front sight}.. All markings are clear.. The screw heads are all sharp and clean and not all burred up from tinkering. All are serviceable and nothing stuck or frozen up. The wood is very good. The forearm has no splits or cracks but a couple gouges on the bottom. Still fits full, tight and above to the metal all around even though I think it has been very lightly cleaned at one time. Never sanded on.. The butt stock has no splits or cracks and fits tight and above the metal also. The lower tang fits a little lower than I like so it might be off another 92 but it matches the forearm perfectly. {see photos} It has been lightly cleaned also but never sanded on and still fits full and proud.. Just very nice looking wood on this gun. Has a little oil staining where it meets the metal but nothing bad at all. All in all, this is a very nice and clean looking 92.... Getting harder to find these ole Winchesters that have not be messed with much. This one is a pretty honest gun and a great shooter.
