Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. Here is a pretty nice 1873 Winchester. Has the standard 24” octagon barrel. S/N 399351 and made in 1891. It is in the great shooting 38-40 caliber which all of you know I thing and know is the best shooting caliber in these 73's and 92's.... The bore is VERY good with strong rifling with just a little minor roughness about mid way down. NO breaks in the rifling and NO rings or bulges. This gun shoots great... It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. No backed out primers or bulged cases. Very accurate. Gun still has the original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw as it should. Hammer notches are positive and perfect. This gun also still has the original rear tang sight. The staff is still perfect and tight and can still be used today for accurate shooting. Most of these have worn out staffs that wobble back and forth and are impossible to get any accuracy out of them. Also it has the original special order “hunting” front sight with the ivory bead still in tack. These sights were special order for a whole .50 cents back in the day !!!! Someone ordered this gun that wanted an accurate rifle... It even still has the original rear sight “blank filler” so I do not think this gun ever had a rear barrel sight installed!!!! It is amazing some fool has not “robbed” these rare parts of this gun and replaced them with modern trashy parts.. I sell them just the way they come in... The finish is a gray patina. Someone has probably cleaned this gun years ago but nothing sanded on or abrasive was done. Some speckled staining and some very light pin prick roughness manly on the left side of the receiver and rear section of the side of the barrel. Nothing deep at all and is very light but I want to mention for an accurate description. The screw heads are clean and sharp and not burred up. The wood is near excellent on this ole 73. The forearm still fits tight and full to the metal and is proud in some places next to the receiver. NO splits, cracks or repairs and very few handling dings or marks. The butt stock is very nice also. NO splits, cracks or repairs. Fits very full and tight to the metal. Even fits tight and full at the toe of the butt plate where most of these have been worn off or chipped out. Has a few minor honest handling dings but that is it. Actually, I do not think the wood has ever been removed on this gun but of course impossible to say. It fits that tight. Just very nice wood on this gun. All in all, this is a very nice no finish gun as you will find. Never messed with and all original parts. These are getting hard to find in the larger calibers, octagon barrels with very good shootable bores and special order sights at reasonable prices. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping in the USA. Thank you for looking and check back often...
