BRITISH Antique JOSEPH MANTON SxS Shotgun
19th Century 10 Gauge European Double Gun
Here we present an antique Joseph Manton Side by Side Hammer Shotgun in 10 Gauge, made circa the late 19th Century. The locks are marked “J. MANTON & CO.” The top of the barrels is marked “LAMINATED STEEL”.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces have a gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The stock shows significant use. The bores are smooth and semi-bright. The lug and bottom rib have been repaired with a good amount of solder just under the splinter forearm. Rear breech tang screw absent. The action on this shotgun is functioning, the right lock is stronger than the right. This old double gun may not be fit for the field any more, but it would make a great piece to live over the fireplace.
