Fascinating Engraved Example of Spanish Copy!
Here we present an Engraved Spanish Copy of a Colt Single Action Army Revolver by the Orbea Brothers in Eibar, Spain. This manufactory was founded in about 1840 and shut its doors about 1926, placing the year of manufacture likely in the early 20th Century. This revolver would have been exported to South America and Mexico, like this one.
The top of the barrel is marked “FABRICA DE ORBEA HERMANOS EIBAR (ESPANA)”. The left side of the barrel is marked with what appear to be Mexican retailer markings. The frame features nice scroll engraving throughout. It is also equipped with a lanyard ring.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces bear a mostly dark gray patina with a bit of finish left in the cylinder flutes. The markings are partially obliterated with time and use. The numbers match. The bore is clean with visible rifling. The action of the hammer/trigger is functional though the cylinder bolt needs tuning to lock up the cylinder for safe functionality.
