Description:
SOLD!  K98k Mauser Bolt-Action Rifle; 1944 Waffenwerke Brunn AG, Bystrica Production/Wehrmacht Issue; 8mm Mauser
All-matching and original dou-44 code German K98k Mauser...this rifle was manufactured in mid-1944 at the Bystrica factory for issue to the Wehrmacht. A textbook example, the gun has standard features and is all-correct for the maker and time of production, including hooded front sight, stamped small parts, and furniture of laminated beechwood capped with an unmarked buttplate. The finish is signature Brunn deep blue, that has aged almost ideally, with even fading across all surfaces, while the markings are correct and unaltered with unmarred Waffenamts, Eagle/Acceptance(Swaztikas) and matching numbers on all components. An excellent find for the advanced WWII arms enthusiast, this rifle is a fine candidate for having been sent home as a vet's war trophy, and represents a sound investment worthy of any advanced Mauser collection.
Condition
Good to very good, the gun has seen no refinish or restoration, with originally thin blue fading to a smoke-tinged patina, the factory finish is right around 50%. There is high edge wear, dried lubricant and carbon spotting, as well as rubs and toning toward brown around the receiver ring, but no rust or pitting are present. The markings include matching numbers on the rear sight components, bolt handle, cocking piece, thumb safety and shroud, receiver, trigger, barrel band, H-band, trigger guard and furniture, with the cleaning rod, extractor and front sight unnumbered. No import mark is present and all Waffenamts are correct. The furniture rates as good, having scrapes, dings, handling marks and no cartouches visible. As stated, it is numbered internally and matching to the gun. Mechanically excellent with strong action, the rifle headspaces correctly and the bore rates as very good-bright with well-defined rifling beneath lint, residue and light oxidation, there is a hint of frost, but no rust or visible pitting. Included sling is very good to excellent.
