Description:
General Specs: Colt, Year 1926, .22 L.R. standard
Serial Number: 45320

The “Colt Automatic Pistol, Caliber .22, Target Model” was the original name of the pistol that would become known as the “Woodsman” in 1927.  Colt began production of this fine semi-auto pistol in 1915 and built numerous variations until they ceased production in 1977.  There has always been a strong collecting fraternity surrounding the Colt Woodsman, and the values for early, high-condition Colt Automatic Pistol has continued to climb without any end in sight.  This fine Colt, sn45320 built in 1926, is a prime example of the “Pre-Woodsman” retaining over 98% factory condition with only slight wear at the muzzle.  The balance of the pistol is near 100% with no wear on the front or rear grip straps, trigger guard, or trigger and having near perfect original grips, excellent shiny bore with strong rifling, perfect checkering and screw, and the original Pre-Woodsman magazine.  1926 was the last year of this model, with the officially named Woodsman being released in 1927.  The 6 5/8” barrel is the medium taper with the step down at the receiver and narrow taper.  It is hard to find these early guns totally intact, as most have replaced grips, touched up blue, and mis-matched magazines.  Many of them have poor bores due to the early ammunition having corrosive powders.  These pistols were designed for standard velocity .22LR cartridges, which are still available today.  What a great investment quality Colt in pristine condition.  The Colt collecting buyers have been in a frenzy buying the best Colt handguns available, as these hand finished, finely machined Colt pistols will never be produced again.  They are a hoot to shoot as well!  Thanks for looking!
