Description:
With production only lasting two years from 1992 to 1993 and a production total of only 7,000 made, these finely made Browning Model 1886's are scarce guns.  This model was made by Browning as a direct copy of the original Winchester Model 1886.  These Browning Limited Edition Grade 1 Carbines feature a factory high-gloss blue finish, a 22" inch round barrel with a full-length 7-shot magazine tube, a receiver mounted saddle ring, and an American Walnut stock set with a crescent buttplate.  The factory iron sights consist of a barrel-mounted front blade sight, and a dovetailed-in adjustable rear sight that flips from a standard blade to a ladder style sight adjustable to 2,000 yards.  The receiver is not drilled and tapped for optics or a receiver-mounted peep sight.  This particular example is serial number 03424NY1C7 and was made in 1992.  It was bought new and put into storage, never once fired since leaving the factory.  It is a minty gun except for one small problem, the carpet that the butt of the carbine was resting on got moisture in it causing the buttplate to rust.  By the time it was discovered it was too late and the damage to the buttplate was done.  The only good news was the rest of the gun remained flawless.  The gloss blue finish rates 99% with no wear, corrosion, or handling marks.  It is a beautiful high polish deep blue finish.  The bore is pristine in this Browning.  The rifling is factory new with sharp lands and grooves and there are no visible imperfections whatsoever.  The factory Walnut stock set is in excellent condition.  The wood is free from cracks, chips, repairs, or wear.  If you look very carefully there are a couple of tiny little storage marks but nothing that really detracts from the beautiful overall appearance of this 1886 SRC.  In an attempt to hide the rust damage to the buttplate, it was cleaned of active rust by the original owner and painted black.  He actually did a pretty good job of it and the buttplate does not stick out as being painted unless you really examine the rifle.  The new owner if he or she chooses, might be able to find a factory replacement buttplate and that would put this gun back to totally like-new condition.  All of the controls on this Browning work perfectly, and the action is both smooth and precise.  It should function perfectly just like the day it left the factory 27 years ago.  If you have been looking for one of these 1886 Saddle Ring Carbines for your collection here is your chance to get a really nice unfired example for a good price.
