Description:
Winchester Model 21 TRAP/SKEET 12 Gauge Shotgun
EXHIBITION WOOD, 28", 99%

General Specs: Winchester, Year 1937, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 5oz, SxS
Serial Number: 13712

When John Olin wanted to have title to the strongest side by side shotgun in the world, he went to work and got it done.  The Model 21 is an American icon with a well-deserved reputation.  A strikingly handsome gun with the finest steels, gunners in the know have utilized this Winchester in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure.  IF YOU LIKE HEAVY LOADS FOR PHEASANTS OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS THE GUN.  FOR THOSE THAT SHOOT HIGH VOLUME BIRDS OR CLAYS, THIS IS YOUR GUN!  Most double gun enthusiasts are keenly aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of mechanical genius that was under the micro management of John Olin himself.  With only 30,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm.  This gorgeous M21 Trap Grade Skeet, SN13712 made in 1937, is a great example.  What set the Trap Grade apart from the more common and less valuable Field Grade? The Trap Grade was adorned with highly figured wood and the side panels at the head of the stock  were often checkered.  The beavertail forend was made longer by about an inch and came up above the centerline of the barrels.  The Trap Grade came standard with a recoil pad.  The trigger plate was stamped “TRAP” above the bottom action screw.  You can see all these features on this gun.  Many are unaware that the designation “TRAP GRADE” did not necessarily mean the gun was meant for shooting trap, but rather was a Grade designation containing certain features.  Some Model 21 guns will be marked “TRAP/SKEET” around the bottom screw and were skeet choked, but not all skeet guns were so marked.  This gun was ordered as a SKEET gun with Trap Grade features, as noted by the special-order factory chokes of WS1 in both the right and left barrels.  This gun was restored at the factory in 1964 and was well cared for since then, with the wood and metal retaining over 99% condition.  The 28” barrels are a rare and desirable feature on a M21 Skeet gun and a welcome find in today’s shooting world where everybody wants longer barrels.  The mechanics and bores of this gun are excellent.  What a great field or clays gun at a price that most people can afford.  This is one of the most attractive Model 21 guns I have seen in a long time with truly exceptional wood figure and overall condition.  A great shooting machine and a grand investment opportunity.  Thanks for looking!
