Description:
This 2nd Model Dragoon is an excellent all-original example of Colt's "F-series" 2nd Generation cap and ball revolvers. It comes complete with the original serial numbered box, owner's manuals, assorted paperwork, and foam inserts. It was purchased new sometime between 1978 and 1983 and was put up in storage, never being fired. This is a massive revolver and is extremely attractive and impressive. It is a 6-shot .44 caliber revolver patterned after the original 2nd Model Dragoon built by Colt from 1850 to 1851. The 2nd Model Dragoon differed from the 1st Model in that it had rectangular cylinder notches and a flat mainspring. It retained the square-back triggerguard of the 1st Model. Only roughly 2550 2nd Model Dragoons were made during the 2 year production run and originals today are extremely expensive. These 2nd Generation production cap and ball Colts were the firm's attempt to make the Dragoon and other valuable models available to the public in a gun they could actually handle and shoot. As you can see from the pictures, this Colt 2nd Model Dragoon is nearly perfect except for a few tiny storage marks it acquired in the safe. It was stored out of the box with numerous other cap and ball Colts without a zipper case and the inevitable little "safe dings" occurred at some point during the last 35 to 40 years. The gloss blue finish on the barrel and cylinder rates 98% plus and is very attractive. The case colored hammer, frame, and loading lever parts rate 99% are show lots of bright and beautiful color. The brass triggerguard and grip frame show a nice aged patina and some light tarnish but are in near perfect condition. The original walnut 1-piece grip is exceptionally attractive on this Dragoon. The Walnut shows some nice figure grain/figure in it and the wood is perfectly fit to the gun. There are just a few tiny storage marks in the wood but nothing that sticks out and ruins the clean look of the Colt. This Dragoon is in perfect working order. Everything works 100% like the day it left the factory and the action is perfectly "in time". The original box shows some age and wear but has an intact factory end-label that is serial numbered to the gun. All of the paperwork is still inside the box in a plastic pouch affixed to the inside of the lid, and the factory hangtag is still on the gun itself. Both of the factory upper and lower foam inserts are still inside. If you have been looking for a neat new addition to your Colt or general gun collection, this Colt 2nd Model Dragoon would be an excellent choice.
