Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card, Certified Check, Money Order Description: Antique SPRINGFIELD Model 1873 TRAPDOOR Rifle The Original .45-70 GOVT Made Circa 1874 Here we present an antique Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle, manufactured circa 1874. This was the first trapdoor Springfield to be chambered for the powerful and famous .45-70 GOVT cartridge. The trapdoor rifle was the primary weapon in the U.S. military from the end of the Civil War to the end of the 19th Century, encompassing the Indian Wars and even the Spanish-American War in Cuba. The lock is marked “EAGLE/US/SPRINGFIELD”. The top of the trapdoor is marked “MODEL/1873/EAGLE/US”. The top of the butt plate is marked “U”. Both government inspector cartouches are located on the left side of the stock opposite the lock. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is in great shape with sharp rifling and a nice layer of dust. The action on this trapdoor is excellent. Own a great piece of US history! Own the original!
