GERMAN Antique Full Stock JAEGER Smoothbore Musket
Handsome with Carved Wooden Trigger Guard
Here we present a Signed Antique German Full Stock Jaeger Musket, made sometime in the early-to-mid 19th Century. This smoothbore musket would have been used for putting game on the table and protecting the homestead. It features a full length stock though it is really quite light and handy compared to many of its American contemporaries. The trigger guard is carved out of wood and forms a pistol grip over the straight wrist. There is a cheek rest on the left side. The barrel bears a blade front sight. The lock is signed something like “W. Westkirk”. This is a very Germanic design that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces bear a light gray patina. Markings are mostly legible. The stock is smooth and solid with the exception of a small repair on the trigger guard. The bore is smooth and in good shape. The action is excellent, strong and crisp.
