Smith & Wesson .38 S&W Single Action Revolver
19th Century Self-Defense Revolver
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action Revolver, made circa 1880s in Springfield, Massachusetts. This would have been a very nice revolver to put on a belt in the late 19th Century. It held 5 shots of .38 S&W.
The top of the barrel is marked with “SMITH&WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS U.S.A. PAT’D JAN. 17&24 ‘65/JULY 11 ’65 AUG. 24, ’69, JAN 19 1875. REISSUE JULY 25, 1871”.
This one looks as though it spent some time underground. The metal surfaces are dark with age with heavy surface wear and corrosion. The grips are smooth and were added sometime after this piece was dug or recovered. The bore is dark. The action on this revolver is strong. Firing pin on the hammer is a replacement.
