Description:
#0917 G. Woodhead, Howard Street, Sheffield marked large belt knife having a 8-7/8” spearpoint blade with the makers marks on the throat. Bone slab grips with German silver cross guard. The blade has a mottled grey color and shows some scattered minor pitting and very light sharpening; the grips have a sliver chip and it has the typical Sheffield style red scabbard which is missing the belt button. A larger sized knife which is surely a “fighting knife” and compared to just being a more utilitarian camp style knife. A desirable 1860-1870 knife that was very likely used in the Civil War, about VG overall. $695
