Description:
Sale Pending. Early Smith and Wesson Top Break Revolver in .38 S&W known as the 2nd Model Single Action Revolver. These were made from 1877-1891 with an improved automatic ejector design  the replaced the earlier 1st Model with its longer ejector housing known as the "Baby Russian".  This one looks to have been made in the early 1880's as it has the marbled red and black hard rubber grips with the fancier monogram.  Typically, we see these on SA's and early DA's made during this era.  Finish is nickel of which 10% remains.  Balance is a smooth grey patina that is turning to brown.  Good action.  Barrel isn't loose to the frame.  Ejector star works when barrel tipped forward.  Matching numbers are on the barrel, cylinder, frame, and latch.  Grips are very good except for chip on bottom of right grip around the guide pin and a small crack to the guide pin on the left panel...still there though.  The bore is poor...looks like it has 2 partial rings that slightly bulge along the outer barrel wall.  If you're looking for a cheap early S&W pocket, this would make a decent example until a better one came along.   Once fixed, the grips alone will be worth the price we have for the whole gun.
