Description:
This Browning Grade II ATD-22 .22 rifle is a real beauty and comes complete with the original box and Styrofoam inserts.  The ATD-22 (Auto Take-Down .22 caliber) rifle by Browning has been one of the most successful semi-auto rimfire rifle models ever made.  They are small and sleek with graceful lines, and the model quickly earned a reputation for being extremely well-made, reliable, and accurate.  They were first made by Browning/FN in Belgium until being discontinued in 1974, with production resuming in Japan for Browning by Miroku in 1976.  The ATD-22 was offered in many "grades" during it's production run with the standard rifle called a Grade 1, and the higher grades going up from there up to Grade 6.  This particular rifle is a 1982 vintage Miroku-made Grade 2, which was discontinued in 1984.  These Grade 2 guns feature factory hand-engraving on a grayed receiver, with a gloss blue factory finish on the barrel and a deluxe checkered Walnut stock set.  This rifle is in excellent all-original condition and is a particularly beautiful rifle in that the Walnut stock set is more attractive than many of it's Grade 2 peers.  The factory gray finish on the reciever is excellent and rates 98% plus, showing only some tiny handling marks and some very small dark speckling around/on the triggerguard.  The factory engraving is in perfect condition.  The lines are all clean and precise and show no visible wear.  The gold finish on the trigger is in good shape overall as well, only showing some finish wear on the edges and face of the trigger.  The factory high-gloss blue finish on the barrel is beautiful, rating 98% plus.  Only under extremely close inspection could one find any deductions whatsoever to justify a 2% loss.  The bore in this barrel looks perfect.  It is bright and clean with nice sharp rifling and there is no pitting, bulges, dents, erosion, or any other visible imperfection present. As mentioned earlier, the stock set on this Browning is beautiful.  The hand-checkered Walnut stock set is in excellent condition, showing only some very minor handling/use marks.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, chipping, or repairs, and the factory-applied clear finish is fully intact.  The checkering on the forearm and pistol grip is still clean and crisp, with no soiling or broken diamonds, and the original blued steel buttplate is in excellent shape and tight to the wood.  Everything on this Browning works 100% like the day it left the factory.  The action is still tight and smooth, and all of the controls are in perfect working order.  As mentioned before, this beautiful little Grade 2 ATD-22 comes with the original factory box and the original Styrofoam inserts.  If you have been looking for a classy and unique .22 rifle to add to your collection that will serve as both an investment and a shooter, this Browning would be an excellent choice.  It is still is in investment-quality condition but not so perfect that you would feel guilty shooting it.
