Description:

   ***   SOLD   ***   Excellent James Purdey & Sons 12 bore sidelock ejector game gun with sculpted fences and highly figured European walnut stock and forearm. Number 1 of a pair. Recently refurbished, this gun is in great mechanical and cosmetic condition. Serial number 16227 was made in 1898. Crisp engraving on coin finish frame and sidelocks. Bluing is perfect. Stock finish is great with crisp checkering. Gun has double triggers, automatic ejectors, bushed strikers, and automatic safety. Weighs 6 lb 10 oz. Well suited for clays or game.   ***   The 30” original Krupp nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges. The barrels are topped by a raised solid concave game style rib on which is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons  Audley House  South Audley Street  London”. The underside of the barrels is marked “Special Gun Barrel Steel Fried. Krupp”. The left barrel is bored 0.733 and has a constriction of 0.023 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.000 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. The barrels were nitro proofed at time of manufacture for “1-1/8 oz Maximum” and remain in proof.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made from highly figured European walnut. Checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8” over a 5/8” professionally  installed wooden extension to a checkered butt by 1-1/4” by 1-3/4”. Cast off approximately 1/4” for the righthand shot.   ***   SPECIAL NOTE: This gun is No. 1 of a pair and may be purchased with its consecutively serial-numbered mate in their oak & leather double gun case with accessories.
