Surprisingly, full octagon sporting rifles in this caliber are very hard to find. I see many more carbines in .25-35 than 26” barreled rifles, especially octagon rifles. This example shows fine blue on the mag tube and also fine but thinning blue on the barrel, especially on the octagon edges. It has a flat top buckhorn rear sight paired with a Sheard marked Marble long blade/bead front sight. The receiver is mostly a typical for this vintage ’94 gray/brown, but has not been steel-wooled or cleaned and still shows some small protected areas of aged blue. Stock and forend show tight wood to metal fit and normal light handling only. The bore is excellent with sharp rifling all the way through and is only slightly dark. A fairly hard to find octagon barrel rifle and caliber variation. 103 years old!
