Payment Types Accepted: cash, cc, cashier's check Description: Springfield Armory began in 1924 to manufacture an improved cal. .22 bolt-action rifle under the designation U.S. Rifle Cal. .22, M1922MI. The M1922MI rifle was assembled with a military style pistol grip stock of American walnut with grooved fore-end and a sharply checkered steel military style buttplate without trap. It had the usual sling swivel fittings to accommodate the 11/4″ military sling. The bolt assembly had a single firing pin and was adjusted to the individual rifle in manufacture to obtain minimum acceptable headspace. The receiver serial number was etched on the bolt after fitting to prevent its inadvertent exchange with the bolt from another rifle. The headless cocking piece was standard and the 5-round box magazine fitted flush with the bottom of the floorplate. Sights were the Lyman No. 48C receiver sight with one-half minute adjustments and the usual military blade front sight. With the exception of the brightly polished bolt body, all metal parts of the M1922MI rifle were Parkerized in manufacture. Weight of the rifle was about 8.75 lbs., and its 24″ sporter contour barrel was rifled with four lands and grooves. The right hand rifling had a uniform twist rate of one turn in 16″. In 1932 some additional refinements were made in the design of the Springfield cal. .22 rifle resulting in the standardization of the U.S. Rifle. Cal. .22, M2. Model 1922 rifles returned to Springfield Armory for repair or storage, were fitted with the improved M2 bolt assembly and companion magazine. The “M2” designation was added to the model designation on the receiver and the letter “A” was added to the serial number. Similarly, M1922MI rifles received at Springfield Armory were fitted with the improved M2 bolt assembly and magazine. During this modification, an “I” or “1” marking was added to the model designation on the receiver and the letter “B” was added to the serial number. This particular rifle has the proper sling made by Chicago. SOLD Manufacturer: U.S.SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Model: M1922MII Serial Number: 9924B Caliber Info: .22LR Condition: Excellent |
