Description:
Collector investment grade 1967 Browning Baby .25 Caliber Automatic Pistol - "Lightweight" Model.  A complete and thorough description and packing list is shown down below.   This is a very nice Baby specimen to add to any collection.  There are some very slight handling marks on the right-hand side of the slide surface, above the front of the trigger guard and near slide end at the barrel end. (see picture #11 and #14)  Shipping and Insurance is included in the price(see details below).

Some history - Browning Arms Company of St. Louis, Missouri started importing handguns under its own trademarks in 1954.  The guns wee marked "Browning Arms Company" (BAC) and were produced under contract by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Belgium.  The models imported included the .25 Caliber Automatic Pistol (sometimes called the "Baby") in "Standard" blue finish, the "Lightweight" (introduced in 1955) in a duraluminum frame and chrome plated steel slide, and the "Renaissance" finished in a bright nickel.

Starting in 1954 for Standard's and 1955 for Lightweight's, these Baby's were shipped to the U.S. in black and red display/presentation cases/boxes until they were discontinued in about 1962.  However, some Baby's were shipped in burgundy cardboard boxes with hinged lids embossed with the Browning logo and later transferred to the black and red display/presentation cases/boxes by Browning before being sent to U.S. Distributors.

After 1962, the Baby's continued to be shipped in the
burgundy cardboard boxes and later plain cardboard boxes to be later transferred/repackaged into the new style black and red plastic box. (see photos)  Renaissance were shipped in blue velvet presentation cases the entire period unless they were sold in the Renaissance 3-pistol set.

With regard to the Lightweight, although marketed by Browning as a nickel finish from 1955 to 1960, the plating was actually a chrome or nickel-chrome plating.  The finish is distinctively different and harder than FN's (prewar) nickel finish.  Browning updated the "nickel" description in 1961 to "chrome", even if the plating remained identical.  Browning continued to use the word "nickel" to describe various plating looks like "satin nickel".

GOAL:
