Description:
LANCASTER PATTERN PERCUSSION NORTH WEST INDIAN TRADE RIFLE SIGNED JAMES/PHILADA. CIRCA 1830-40’S. 60” o/a with 44” octagon .40 caliber rifled barrel stamped ‘JAMES PHILADA” in small block letters on the top flat. Double set triggers. Full length maple stock with brass trigger guard and mounts. Original lock stamped “WARRENTED” with the original hammer and drum. Original hickory ramrod. Classic form of plain trade rifle made by various other Pennsylvania gunmakers including Henry Deringer, Jacob Dickert and Tryon & Son for the Federal Government as well as fur trading companies. Nice all original condition with stock still having the original dark stain finish and the metal uncleaned with the old original brown patina. Small wood chip missing at the right side of the muzzle but is minor and does not detract from the overall appearance. Classic of the Fur Trade era.
