Description:
MINT WWII OR WW2 COLT U.S. PROPERTY GENERAL OFFICERS MODEL M 1908 .380ACP POCKET HAMMERLESS SEMI-AUTO PISTOL IN KRAFT BOX, CIRCA 1944. Serial number "136XXX". 100% original Colt brushed blue finish. With two original magazines in same unused condition both with "Cal. 380/ Colt" in large lttrs on bases. Serial number falls within range of three orders shipped between Oct. 1944 - June 1945. Generals Eisenhauer and Patton had like pistols(blue as well in rare .380acp) shipped in the same block of 1500 overall .380's. Eisenhauer's pistol was serial number "135171" and Patton's "135170". "U.S. Property" cleanly struck under ejection port on right side of frame. Ordnance wheel stamp behind sight on frame on left slide. "64" stamp on right trigger bow with "VP" and "4" opposite. Correct checkered walnut grip panels with no signs of carry. Accompanying Kraft box with matching serial number black grease penciled on bottom excellent from the period as they were issued with. Also with group is original 1944 date Colt manual of operation. The General Officer's pistol in .380acp were rarer than those issued in .32acp because Colt ran out of .380s. A total of 1,500 .380's as opposed to 2,500 in .32acp. Further research may garner the recipient General or Colonel. Records do exist. From local Washington D.C. area where most of these military families retired to. NOT all the General/Officer's pistol records were accounted for so could be a fun research project.
