In the spring of 1980 at a fraternal gathering of American Fighter Pilots at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, four legendary airmen were invited guests. This may have been the only time they were not looking at each other through gun sights. The following were present and signed each lithograph for Major Richard L. Bates (F-4 Pilot & POW) Vietnam War. They were Aldolph Galland of the German Luftwaffe. He rose to commander of all German Air Forces. The second was Erich Hartman the leading ace in World War II from any Air Force with 352 kills. The third gentleman was Robert Stanford Tuck of the RAF, a real true leader of the British Air Force during WW II, and last but not least the toughest airman ever, Sir Douglas Bader. Bader lost both legs in an aircraft accident before the war. Bader was fitted with artificial limbs and attained the rank of Wing Commander. His exploits are legendary. While a POW in Germany he tried to escape so many time the Camp Commander had his legs taken away.
