Description:
#17818, Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street, London: Winners Of All The "Field" Rifle Trials London: A very nice early Model Royal Back Action Sidelock Toplever Hammerless 450 3 1/4" Black Powder Express Double Rifle that remains totally original and still in excellent condition with excellent plus bores, Finished in 1894, 28" Extractor Dovetail lump Steel barrels, 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Double underlugs & double bite, The barrels are BPE proved and the frame marked "Charge 4 Drams Case 3 1/4 Inches", Extended top strap over the comb, Top lever, A very unique and very unusual bolted safety, Anson frontal forend release, Pistol grip stock with an engraved steel grip cap, Steel trigger guard tang to the grip cap, 14 3/8"" LOP over a horn buttplate, No cheekpiece, Neat weight at 8 lbs. 6 oz., 98% engraving coverage of classic H&H Royal scroll, Extremely solid wood both front & back that will last another 125 years, No sling eyes, Zero primer burn at the striker holes, Here is an 1894 Classic Royal H&H that remains totally original, This piece has original barrel blue that remains at 75%, It has 35% original case colors, The wood front & back remains at 85%, The checkering is at 95%, Every screw is north & south and all remain in excellent condition including those inside the forend, The strong news here is the bore condition that remains excellent plus with square rifling throat to muzzle and look like they did 125 years ago, It is cased in a brass cornered leather trunk that I believe is original but relined at a later time, I have a strong feeling it is original as it has Walter Lloyd embossed on the outside and the Gold escutcheon is engraved "W.H.C.L from R.W. & H.A.L. Nov. 1st, 1904". This piece was back at H&H in 1904 for a new backsight, as it remains today, as the original was a 1 standing blade. This is a very nice gun that was well kept for 125 years and it now is looking for another custodian. The gun is exactly today like it was in 1894, right down to the exact length of pull and weight; this based on the factory letter. This gun has deer and boar written all over it.
