Description:
This is an unaltered Civil War Model 1860 Spencer carbine in very good condition. The carbine is in its original Model 1860 configuration as issued to U.S. Cavalry troops for Civil War service and shows no post war modifications or upgrades. All parts are original to the gun. The lever action is smooth and the lock is rock solid on half and full cock. All screws are original to the gun. The stock and foream are in very good plus condition with the buttstock showing two correct federal inspection cartouches on the left wrist directly behind the saddle ring bar. The stocks are clean smooth dark colored walnut, have not been sanded, and retain a nice oil finish. There is a small well done hardly noticeable repair along the top rear edge of the forearm where it meets the frame; this is about 2 and 1/4 inches long by 1/8 inch wide. The butt stock has a few scattered service dings and nicks with an old shallow minor chip out directly above the rear of the saddle ring bar. The gun retains its original Model 1860 loading tube and the smooth buttplate trap. The Spencer patent markings on top of the frame are all clear with just the first of the three lines a little faint. The frame and barrel have matching serial numbers in the 44,xxx range. All of the iron parts are uncleaned unpolished dark gray-brown patina with scattered patches of light pitting on the sides of the frame, more so on the lock side. The carbine retains its original rear and front sights as well as the stock sling swivel. The deeply rifled original .52 caliber bore shows strong semi bright rifling with a few scatterd spots of pitting but nothing serious. It will probably clean up better with a good scrubbing.  All-in-all a solid representative example of the iconic Civil War seven shooter showing honest light field use and wear but nothing much to aplogize for. I believe I have it priced reasonably compared to others on the market in similar condition.
