Description:
Winchester Model 70 custom in 7x57 built by Thomas Burgess and Earl Milliron probably when they both were in Spokane, WA. Built on a 1939 Winchester Model 70 action with a 23" half round/half octagon sightless barrel with a recessed crown. Pre-War Model 70 action with clover leaf tang but later bolt shroud with later style side swing safety. Custom checkered bolt release. A single filled extra hole in the left side rail. Custom Burgess bottom metal with straddle floorplate and trigger bow release. Three panel bolt knob checkering by Burgess. Topped with a Weaver K4-1 scope with duplex in Talley bases and rings. Stocked in a very nice piece of English Walnut with extremely nice figure, color, and contrast. 13 1/2" LOP to a Mannlicher-Schoenauer trap steel buttplate. Steel pistol grip cap. Sling studs fore and aft. Point pattern checkering with mullered border that completely wraps the forend. 8lb 7oz as scoped. This is an extremely nice piece with some light stock dents and dings from careful field use. The owner says it's a tack driver with173 grain Remington Core-Loc bullets. Blue remains at 98% Stock finish at 96% Checkering at 98% Stocked by Milliron and metal work by Burgess, two icons of the American Custom Gunmaking Industry.
