Description:
Model 1877 Springfield Carbine This Model 1877 carbine was produced in 1880 and is in very good original unaltered condition. No evidence of refinishing or arsenal refurbishing for the Spanish American War. Often referred to as the Springfield Model 1879 (not correct) because of the improved replacement parts post 1876. The variation of improved parts are all consistent with production date which I’ll bullet point. Don’t be fooled by the many altered Springfield rifles to carbines floating around on the internet. This is a 100% original correct Springfield Armory manufactured carbine. Well used but no abused in very good condition. Very attractive, displays quite well, and has an excellent action. Rifling a little worn. I really believe a picture is worth a ”thousand word” so I try to include many all in outdoor natural lighting. Also included is an original jointed carbine ramrod with the headless shell extractor. Model 1877 Carbine “US" marked butt plate (up to serial No. 155,000) Carbine stock with correct Armory Master Armorer’s cartouche, clipped corner box with “SWP 1880” (Samuel W. Porter) and firing proof cartouche, “P” in a circle behind the trigger plate. (faint but legible) Buckhorn rear sight, 4th variation (up to serial No. 140,000) stamped with a “C” on the left side of the base. C for carbine. 5th variation low arch breech (96,000-205,000) with some remnants of case coloring. Nice plume brown-blue finish throughout with no evidence of metal refinishing. I’m leaving California and need to thin down my collection. I’ll also be listing an unissued early low serial number (91) Model 1864 Burnside Carbine manufactured in 1863. I’m very particular always looking for the best I can find. Please email if you have any questions or desire additional picture. NO FFL NEEDED-18 years of older. I can shipped USPS 3 -day priority for about $60.00 plus insurance. Will consider all offers. Thank you
