Description:

I am a collector, not a dealer. I collected Winchester Model 1895 Lee Navy rifles and muskets for over 30 years and over 20 passed through my collection. The musket offered here, serial number 704, is the finest I ever owned and the last one I have, but it is time to pass it along to a new owner who will cherish it as much as I have. This musket came to me about 25 years ago. It is a standard musket chambered in 6mm Lee Navy.  It is part of the first contract the Navy had with Winchester, and an early one, judging from the low serial number. It weighs 9.0 lbs and has a 28” barrel. What makes it unique is it’s condition and what it came with. Since Winchester only made 20,000 Lee Navy muskets, rifles and sporters, and almost all of the muskets were issued to the Navy and Marines, and since they saw hard service, most I have seen are in varying degrees of well-used condition. This one is in remarkably clean and in what I would call very lightly used condition. It has what I believe to be an original sling and swivels. It also came with a pull-through rifle barrel cleaner, including the brush, in the butt trap. (I have only seen pictures of original musket slings and never even a picture of the pull-through, although they are mentioned in the literature.) Condition-wise, I would rate this musket at 90% for the stock and 95% for the metal. It has an excellent bore, still clean and shiny, not pitted or worn. The exterior metal retains nearly all of it’s original deep blue; it has faded to patina only on the lower barrel band and bolt handle knob which retain about 60% of their blue. The markings are crisp and clear as you can see from the pictures. The stock has a few dents and dings, probably from storage, but no deep gouges, cracks, chipping or missing wood. It has two identifying stamps on the stock, a small star and letter “A” on the underside of the buttstock near the toe, both visible in the pictures. Please look at the pictures as they tell it all; more and/or larger pictures available upon request. And please ask any questions you may have; I’ll do my best to answer them. It is an antique, so no FFL needed. Payment by cashiers check only please.
