Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: Original Colt 1851 .36 Caliber Navy revolver. Serial numbered in the 78xxx range, it was manufactured in late 1857, just before the American Civil War, and sold to the U.S. Government. These revolvers are referred to by collectors as an Army/Navy Colt 1851. It has all matching numbers and a martial "U.S." stamp on the left side of the frame below the the Colt Patent stamp. Also present is a faint U.S. inspector's cartouche on the side of the right grip panel. These markings denote Army use, as opposed to that of the U.S. Navy which marked their revolvers on the bottom of the grip frame. It is interesting to note that only a few thousand Colt 1851 Navies were purchased by the U.S. Army, and this particular revolver most certainly saw action in the American Civil War. This gun is in very good, original condition, and retains approximately 50% of the naval engagement scene on the cylinder. The action locks up tight and is in good time. The bore is in good conditon with sharp rifling and some corrosion present, typical of a revolver of its age that saw service. A nice original example of a classic Civil War side arm.
