Description:
This is a Model 1836 Johnson with an 1842-dated lock. It is 54 caliber, 8 ½” smooth bore barrel. All of the markings are sharp and crisp. There are two very nice inspector cartouches on the left wrist. The mechanical function is very good and tight. The wood has two very sharp inspector cartouches. All of the markings are sharp and clear. The smooth bore is not pitted and corroded but is very nice. The wood is very good without any cracks or damage. The metal is smooth and not pitted or corroded. This is a really nice U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock pistol and was the improved version of the 1826 model. It was considered the most attractive and best made in the flintlock ignition system. These were used in the Mexican War and when converted to percussion were used durnig the Civil War.
