Description:
Rifle is SOLD, pending funds from first interested party. Thank You for your interest.

This is a very beautiful, excellent to mint condition, 1962 Springfield Armory National Match M1 Garand rifle. S/N 3868467. Rifle was originally sold by the DCM on March 25, 1963. Copy of original sales receipt and CMP letter to be included.
It was assembled on a late WW2 receiver, in the very desirable 3.8 million serial number range. 99% overall finish that is mint. The 30-06 barrel muzzle wear is a 0.0 and the throat wear is 1.0. The NM barrel still shows the cutting marks in the muzzle and bore. Chamber is "in the White" and shows no signs of any refinishing. Bore is mirror bright and looks new. National Match rifles in this condition are getting extremely hard to find.

As stated by M1 historian Scott Duff,“It is my opinion that the Type 2 National Match M1 is the epitome of Garand rifle development; it is a work of art in wood and metal.” After looking at this rifle, I think you would agree!

The stock is excellent, crisp, feels like it was made yesterday at the Springfield Armory match shop. The original 1/2" DAS (Eagle and Stars) is deeply struck, nice and crisp. The circle P is also deeply struck, original and crisp, with serifs. All the wood, stock and handguards, match beautifully and have very few handling marks of any kind. Stock locks UP tight, and exhibits only a few handling marks, and minor marks from the sling buckle. The wood grain on this stock is beautiful and is the lighter colored walnut seen on the final Springfield rifles. Very straight grain as specified by the NM directives, though the front handguard exhibits some wonderful burl and flame in the sunlight. The front handguard is also glued, but not screwed, to the lower band. This was also done at the armory.
National Match M1 Garands are arguably the best Garands made. Here’s your chance to purchase one in exceptional condition. It will ship in a CMP green hard case for safety and security while in transit. If you have any questions please ask, I can take any additional pictures you might require.
I have a varied interest in all things M1 Garand, 1903 Springfield and M1A/M14 rifles. Let’s hope we all get to see CMP 1911 .45 pistols soon!
