Here we have an unmolested Winchester Model 71 Deluxe Rifle, complete with the factory sling swivels and Winchester Model 98A Factory installed bolt peep sight, 98% factory blue on the barrel, 98% factory blue on the receiver and lever, 99% factory blue on tangs, and factory checkering and wood finish. The Model 71 was basically a continuation of the Model 1886, with the same action, but the addition of the pistol grip butt stock and beavertail style forend. Manufactured from 1935 until 1958, the Model 71 was produced in .348 Winchester caliber only. There were few Deluxe Rifles made, and this one, serial number 355 made in 1936, is a great example of a pre-war, long tang 71 Deluxe as it is unmolested in any way and has perfect mechanics. The desirable long tang was discontinued in late 1936, so there are very few M71’s with the long tang, and let’s face it, a THREE DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER IS REALLY FEATURE ON A WINCHESTER DELUXE RIFLE! These pre-war, long tang Deluxe Model 71’s are a great investment Winchester, and great rifles to go after big game with. The Winchester .348 is a great mid-range caliber, shooting a 200-grain slug at a velocity of around 2500 fps. for plenty of brush bucking stopping power. The ammunition is still available from several sources on the internet. The trigger is crisp breaking at 4.25 lbs. and the rifling is perfect…clean, sharp, and mirror shiny. See the photos of the muzzle, as the only flaw is some minor pitting in the last half inch. It would be hard to find a better Model 71 Deluxe with all these goodies, a 3 digit serial number, and at this price. Thanks for looking.
